Justin Jefferson Reaffirms Commitment To Vikings
As long as Justin Jefferson feels wanted, he remains committed to the Vikings. Easy enough, right? Well, it should be as long as the Vikings don’t screw this up. Jefferson says that he’s ready to talk extension if the Vikings are willing to do the same.
“I mean, I will be wherever I’m wanted. If they want me here, I’m here. That’s not something that I can really control,” Jefferson said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com.
If the Vikings are smart, they get this extension done sooner rather than later. The 2020 first round pick is allowed to sign a long term deal via league rules prior to his fourth NFL season. The former LSU product has been a superstar for Minnesota right out of the gates. He’s given them record setting numbers with Kirk Cousins as his quarterback. Jefferson is arguably the best receiver in football and the Vikings need to do everything it takes to keep him. Not that anyone doesn’t already think that.
It’s huge that Jefferson has already come out and expressed a desire to get an extension done. He’s not obligated to do so while under team control for another two years. If Jefferson really wanted to maximize his earnings, he would wait this thing out and hit the open market.
The pressure is officially on Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to get a deal done. There is no reason for the Vikings to mess around here. The sooner this gets done, the more money they will save later. Give Jefferson his money and focus on building a real contender around him.
Side note: If I were him, I’d want out. I would refuse to play another game with Kirk Cousins as my quarterback. Shame on people like Kyle Brandt. Follow up coming next.
