Cardinals Hire Monti Ossenfort As New GM
The Arizona Cardinals will hire Tennessee Titans’ executive Monti Ossenfort to be their new General Manager, according to NFL Network. This news comes just eight days after the team fired head coach Kliff Kingsbury and “parted ways” with longtime GM Steve Keim.
This might not come as a surprise as to who was hired: Monti Ossenfort was a hot commodity in the hiring process of the Giants, Titans, and others earlier this year. Though it may come as a surprise as to how quickly he was hired.
Cardinals ownership wasted no time with the hiring of Monti Ossenfort. He has an illustrious resume; it was no wonder that the Cardinals want Ossenfort after he worked his way into the front office of the Patriots from 2006 to 2020. It was only then that he took the Tennessee job, serving as director of player personnel for the past few seasons.
“It was critically important for us to find the right person to lead us as a general manager and there is no doubt in my mind we have that in Monti Ossenfort,” said Cardinals owner Michael Bidwell.
The Cardinals showed so much promise the last few years, until it all fell apart this past season, suffering a 4-13 season. This horrific record comes just a year after Arizona went 11-6, just to crumble in the playoffs to the eventual champion Los Angeles Rams.
Monti Ossenfort looks to right the ship in Glendale. First order of business? Find a new head coach to pair with star QB Kyler Murray. The Kliff Kingsbury experiment was a dumpster fire filled with drama, controversy, and Call of Duty.
Who knew that hiring a failed college coach would in turn lead to failure at the NFL level? That decision was the final nail in the coffin of Steve Keim, who served the Cardinals from 2013-22.
Monti Ossenfort will try to lead the Cardinals to a Super Bowl: something the franchise has never achieved.
