Jurrien Timber Tears ACL In Debut With Arsenal

The season is over before it ever really got started. After signing with Arsenal during the most recent transfer window, Jurrien Timber suffered an ACL tear in his debut match with the club. Arsenal did manage to beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 but will have to get through the rest of the Premier League season without the young defender.

Fabrizio Ramano was the first to report the unfortunate piece of news:

Not exactly the type of news you want to hear! That’s for sure.

How does this affect the squad moving forward? Oleksandr Zinchenko probably moves back into a starting role. Arsenal also have Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney that could plug in at the left or right back spot too. There have been rumors that Tierney could be sold but maybe this injury puts that on hold. Nuno Tavares, however, probably still doesn’t have a place on the roster and will likely be sold off.

Timber, 22, is still a young player and should be part of the squad for a number of years to come. The injury is definitely unfortunate but he should still be an important part of the cog for the long term vision of what Mikel Arteta is trying to build.

If Arsenal wants to catch Manchester City to win the Premier League, the task of doing so became much harder.
