The Red Sox really wanted Jordan Montgomery. He ended up signing a one year pillow contract with the Diamondbacks instead. We got some insight on why Montgomery didn’t end up with the Red Sox and it couldn’t be a more embarrassing look for the franchise.
Despite his wife having a medical residency in Boston, Montgomery passed on signing with the Red Sox because he wants to win.
“Jordan Montgomery and the Red Sox had their famous Zoom call about six weeks ago, and while the Red Sox aren’t known to have made a concrete offer, it turns out Montgomery preferred not to go there, anyway.”
“There had been speculation that he might like Boston since his wife was training as a doctor at Beth Israel in affiliation with Harvard. But his wife is transferring to Vanderbilt, and word is, Montgomery didn’t love the Red Sox because he wants to win.”
Yikes…
The Red Sox need pitching in the worst way and they just got told no by an innings eater that could have helped them. Montgomery saw Arizona as a team that’s trying to win more so than the Red Sox. Doesn’t that say everything about the way ownership group and the way they have behaved?
This is so embarrassing and there really isn’t any other way to put it. 2024 will be a lost season in Boston and the only thing to really look forward to are some of the prized prospects in the system. Just something that shouldn’t be the case for a large market club like the Red Sox. At what point does ownership look themselves in the mirror?
