JK Dobbins Is Either Still Hurt Or Unhappy About His Contract

JK Dobbins is on the PUP list entering training camp. Normally that wouldn’t be something to panic about, but this one might be an exception. At some point, when there is smoke, there is fire. I am officially panicking if I have Dobbins stock in fantasy.

Dobbins is sitting out practice and apparently, we’re not 100% sure why. Dobbins is either hurt and or unhappy about his contract. John Harbaugh was asked why Dobbins isn’t practicing and his answer was alarming.

“I don’t know. It’s a fair question,” Harbaugh said when asked when Dobbins’ absence becomes a concern, via Sarah Ellison of Ravens Vault. “And there is a point in time when it does become a concern because – and he knows – J.K. and I talked last night. We talk a lot. He wants to be out there, and he needs to be out there, just like any player does. Other than that, there’s nothing else that I can really add because I don’t know when he’s going to come back, but I know I’m going to be really happy when he does.”

What do you mean “I don’t know”? How is that possible? You’re the head coach. I love John Harbaugh but how does he not know? Let’s just go over the scenarios here.

A: If Dobbins is still hurt, that’s a big-time red flag. The former Ohio State product tore his ACL during the preseason of the 2021 NFL Season. Dobbins came back in 2022 but never really look right. He had another knee surgery during the middle of that season. It’s possible at this point that the knee issues are never going to go away. If that’s the case, it should be time to panic here in terms of his fantasy value.

B: If Dobbins is complaining about his contract, that’s a really tough look. Dobbins is a very talented player but his actual resume isn’t there yet. Yes, Dobbins has averaged 5.9 yards per carry but he’s never actually carried this Ravens backfield. We’re talking about a player that has failed to stay healthy and has NEVER had 18 carries in a singular game. I’m sorry but that’s just not good enough to warrant an extension right away. Dobbins needs way more of a resume to complain about his deal.

I don’t know what’s going on here but it might be time to buy some Gus Edwards‘ stock in fantasy. Baltimore also signed Melvin Gordon which raises the level of concern even more despite the fact that Gordon is clearly washed.
