Jaret Patterson 2021 NFL Draft Profile

Jaret Patterson is one of the most underrated running backs heading into the 2021 NFL Draft. Despite the fact that his production is off the charts, you hear little to no buzz on the University of Buffalo tail back. Finding that late round running back gem is always a priority for NFL teams. Could Patterson become that gem? Here’s your 2021 NFL Draft profile on Jaret Patterson.

The first thing that needs to be said about Patterson is the production. The Buffalo running back wearing number 26 was the best player in the MAC Conference three years in a row. Patterson’s best season was his sophomore year were he rushed for 1,799 yards and 19 touchdowns. As a freshman, Patterson averaged 7.6 yards per carry.

The downside of Patterson is that he doesn’t have a ton of receptions. It’s not necessarily something he was asked to do. Let’s just say he is unproven in that area. Three years of college and Patterson has a mere 20 receptions. Not ideal but maybe he’s not your pass catching back.

I think there’s some Doug Martin upside here. The good version of Doug Martin, I mean. Patterson is only about 5-foot-7 but he’s a thick 195. The top end speed might not turn you on but his vision sure as hell should. Patterson know which hole to hit and makes decisions quickly. He’s also tough to find sometimes. That low center of gravity is very much in the favor of Patterson. He knows his strengths and works.

Power, low center of gravity, balance, and the bowling ball effect. If you love those things, the Buffalo running back is for you. Patterson was just incredibly hard to tackle and the thing I love about him is that he keeps those feet churning. The feet are always moving trying to pick up that hidden yardage. That’s an effort thing. You can see Patterson is a very hard worker.

His change of direction might not be elite but Patterson knows his game. One cut and go. There’s not a ton of fancy which is probably why he’s not rated higher by other scouts. I don’t care. Patterson gets after you and I sure as hell am not ignoring his production.

Jaret Patterson cracked my list of top ten running backs heading into the 2021 NFL Draft. I’m not quite sure why Patterson isn’t rated higher by other “experts”. He’s one of my favorite flier running backs in the entire class.
