Daubert’s 2021 NFL Draft Mailbag: Middle Round Gems

Only one question this week for Daubert’s 2021 NFL Draft mailbag. Doesn’t matter. We are diving into the most important part of any draft class. You know, those middle round gems. General managers earn their living by their ability to hit on those middle-round picks. Miss too many years in a row and your roster starts to look like the Patriots whose roster is dog shit and forced to overpay in free agency.

I’ll just throw out a couple of names I would have on my dartboard. I just did the draft profile on Jaret Patterson and I can’t find a single person that likes him besides me. Oh, well.

Does Rondale Moore count? I have no feel where he’s going in the draft. I have him listed as my fourth highest-graded wide receiver. I’ve seen several mocks where he falls out of the first two rounds which is a BIG mistake. Here’s his profile.

Eric Stokes of Georgia is a baller and I also have a profile up on him where I went really in-depth. I would pound the table all day for Stokes. High-level athlete, speed for days, physical and comes with ball skills which makes me love the guy.

I’d still take a shot on Dylan Moses even though he’s injury-prone. Even when he’s playing, he looks hurt. The talent is still unreal when right.

Sign me up for Paulson Adebo. I thought there were a lot of times at Stanford Adebo looked like a first round pick. We just didn’t always see it.

I thought Trey Smith was the best player on Tennessee in 2017 as a freshman. He’s another guy that’s dealt with injuries but Smith has the potential to turn into an elite guard. He played a lot of tackle for the Volunteers. Big time recruit that dominated at the Senior Bowl too.

I watched a game where Israel Mukuamu had three interceptions. Jaycee Horn is fantastic but the other South Carolina corner is damn good. Mukuamu is a project and a half. That MFer is LONG. 6-foot-4 doesn’t do it justice.

Baron Browning is a high twitch linebacker I’m in on. He’s just got an extra gear I like. There are plays where you’re watching and then in an instant a car crash just happened. No, that’s just Browning closing the gap and laying the smack down.

Everyone wants to talk about this Jaelan Phillips nonsense. I’m not sure he’s better than Quincy Roche. Just saying (insert shrug).

Couple SEC linebackers I’ll mention. Monty Rice and KJ Britt. Both can play. I’ll take them as late round snags all day.

There are others I like. These are just some of the names. I have no feel where half of these guys are going so I mostly threw out names I hear nothing about by others.
