Jared Verse became a household name in college football. Can he do the same as he transitions to the NFL level? Let’s have a chat about what you need to know with the Florida State pass rusher as we review his 2024 NFL Draft Profile!
The biggest thing Verse is his sheer power. He ripped out 31 reps on the bench and anytime you really watched a Florida State game, he usually found a way to win with the bull rush. That was really on display late in the year when he heated up.
On the flip side, I’ve also had negative things to say about Verse. I just think life is about expectations. Verse was originally a zero star recruit and got his playing career started at Albany. If you’re looking for Verse to be that freaky juiced up pass rusher, I just don’t see it.
Verse checks in at 6-foot-4, 254, with over 33 inch arms. The 4.58 time that he ran is more than acceptable. I just thought he looked really stiff in the actual on-the-field workout. If anything, his on-field performance was extremely underwhelming.
A lot of Verse’s low recruiting profile was the fact that he switched from tight end to pass rusher. Maybe there are still unknowns here. Maybe he still has more room to grow. While his long speed was middle of the pack, his 10 yard time (1.6) was one of the better ones. Has a pretty good first step and then usually wins with power.
Will he develop more pass rushing moves later? Is the pure power good enough to win at the NFL level? Will he really hold up against the run as a three down player on the edge?
I have a second to third round grade on Jared Verse. I think he will probably be a quality NFL player but I’m not on board with taking him in the first round. I don’t see anything that indicates he’s a sure fire multiple time All-Pro guy. It’s what you need to be. Have you seen the number of teams that decline the 5th year option? Where he’s being projected, I think it’s far too high for a player that’s not twitched up and stiff.
