It’s time for your Jake Fromm 2020 NFL Draft Profile. The Georgia quarterback probably should have returned to school after having a disappointing 2019 season. In a deep quarterback draft, teams will have to figure out where Fromm stands in that group. Let’s get down to business.
The best part about Jake Fromm is his intangibles. From everything I’ve read, it’s Fromm who has had the best interviews. That’s the good news. In terms of understanding the position from a timing, anticipation, and awareness, Fromm has it. Unlike the other quarterbacks, Fromm was a game manager in college. The offense went through D’Andre Swift. The same thing will likely happen in the NFL. If you’re looking for someone to take care of the football and keep you in games, Fromm is your guy.
The negatives to Fromm’s game are simple to comprehend. In terms of arm strength, Fromm has a water pistol. There is a lot of Andy Dalton here. Out of all of the big name prospects, Fromm has by far the weakest arm. His hand size also came in well below 9 inches at the combine. Fromm may have the make up and decision making for the position. What does it matter if he doesn’t have the physical tools?
Which guy are you getting? A better version of Andy Dalton? What if Fromm is just another Colt McCoy? Either could be possible. Fromm did not have a good year in 2019 and that was with a ton of talent around him. 60.8 percent, 2,860 yards, 24 TDs, and five INTs is nothing special. I don’t think his ball placement is bad. Fromm threw for over 67 percent a year ago. It’s just a matter of horse power.
Fromm drove me insane last year. It would go from solid performance to horrible while never truly carrying his team. His Sugar Bowl performance was terrific. The game against South Carolina should have put him on the bench. It was a big time rollercoaster. Again, I think it’s more of a talent issue.
Fromm needs to go to a place where he can function as a backup. When he comes in the game, the team needs to make life easy on him and rely on the run game. At the end of the day, Fromm should have went back to the school. Based on his performance, I wouldn’t feel good about picking him until the 4th round. I wouldn’t give up on Fromm. He’s got the quarterback things to him to play the position.
