Jahmyr Gibbs 2023 NFL Draft Profile

The decision to transfer out of Georgia Tech was a good one for Jahmyr Gibbs. Everyone got a chance to see what Gibbs was capable on a real program and I’m not sure anybody is unhappy with the way it turned out. Alabama once again has another draftable running back. Where does he fit in with this year’s class? Let’s take a look at the Jahmyr Gibbs 2023 NFL Draft Profile!

Gibbs is still a bit of a mystery to me. He’s someone that grew on me over the weeks. I do see the flashes of Alvin Kamara. The bottom line here is that Gibbs moves well, his cuts are insane, and he’s a total playmaker with the ball in his hands. Just know my Kamara comps were before any of the other media people so let’s get that straight too. The only difference here being Kamara transferred out before it would have been his turn at Alabama.

Gibbs blew the combine out of the water. I couldn’t believe he was that fast. I knew Gibbs was fast and could certainly run but 4.36? That’s a blazing time. His feet really stood out for me. Lightning quick feet. In terms of just pure footwork, he’s the best running back in the class. Not sure anyone matches his pure foot speed in short areas.

The thing people should really love here is the fact that he’s an A-quality receiver. This dude bailed Bama out in more ways than one. Remember this year the Tide didn’t have the receiver talent they usually have. Gibbs did a lot of that work on his own out of the backfield. 444 receiving yards for a Nick Saban running back is damn impressive.

The production as a whole is really good. 926 yards (6.1 per carry) and seven touchdowns. I still believe the optimal role for Gibbs is as a duel threat attack. Just asking him to pound the rock 25 times a game is a mistake. His scrimmage yards will matter more than the overall rushing totals. He’s not an A in pass protection or as a pure runner inside the tackles.

I like Jahmyr Gibbs but his stock is getting to a place that makes me uncomfortable. I’d be willing to take Gibbs in the same spot that Kamara went. More than fine turning the card in for the third round. I just know he won’t be there and that’s all good.
