Is Shannon Sharpe heading to ESPN?
Chaos has been the name of the game at ESPN this last week. Now, with over 15 layoffs in a span of a week, what is ESPN really doing? Why are they doing this? Could they be going after a big fish in the sports media world? Well, one name that has popped up on and on is Shannon Sharpe.
Sharpe recently left ‘Undisputed’, his long time talk show. Now, the real question now is, is Shannon Sharpe heading to ESPN? Read more to find out.
Fellow sports anchor Stephen A. Smith commented on the loss of Sharpe with ‘Undisputed’.
“When news was announced that Shannon Sharpe had been bought out of FS1 and he would be leaving at the conclusion of the NBA Finals, there were two things that came to my mind,” Smith said. “That’s a big loss for the show ‘Undisputed’ because Shannon matters, and that I don’t know what his plans are, I don’t know what he’s trying to pursue, I don’t know what he’s after.”
“But if Shannon Sharpe needs me, then I’m happy to be here for him. And if that includes him wanting to come on ‘First Take,’ the bosses know that is something I would support.”
The sporadic talk show host would later go on to secretly recruit Sharpe in heading to ESPN.
“I’m telling you right here: If Shannon Sharpe wanted to join that roster, there’s no resistance from Stephen A. I’ve got love for Shannon Sharpe,” Smith said.
Of course, this would be before the mass firings, but speaking of it now, it makes sense. Having one of the biggest names in the sports media industry and pair him with Stephen A. Smith? Sign me up. The only idea that would sway Sharpe away from ESPN is Pat McAfee and his show joining ESPN.
If money is the concern behind the layoffs, why have Pat McAfee join the show? Now add Sharpe to the mix, money would be drained out fully.
