First of all, I’d like to brag and say I had Christian Wood in my top 10 for Power Forwards this year in our PF rankings. This is not a blog saying that everyone should apologize to Wood for anything lower than that. This is just me being right. Wood exploded at the end of the year and that was enough for me. The Rockets got a STEAL in Wood. When Christian Wood exploded with the Pistons, I thought if he was on any competent team, he’ll be even better, and that is showing already.
The Most Improved Player Award isn’t even a contest this year. Just give the award to Christian Wood and move on. In 2019-2020 NBA season, Wood’s season averages ended as 13.1 PPG on 56.7% shooting. That comes along with 6.3 RPG and 1 APG. However, in the last 21 games of the 2019-2020 season he averaged 20.6 PPG on 57.9% shooting and 8.4 RPG. He already had a major improvement in the same season, he’s going to obliterate his 2019-2020 numbers.
Christian Wood will be a household name soon enough where I can just say I told you so about him. Time will tell what Wood’s ceiling actually is, however, he’s well on his way to being one of the best players on the Rockets. This is the first time in a while the Rockets have actually had a solid and young big man. Sure, there was Clint Capela, but I think Wood is already better than that. I can’t believe more people didn’t see this guy coming. He played for Detroit I know, but he was putting hella good numbers last year. It’s Christian Wood’s time. Put some Respeck on his name.
