Former Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler Transferring to South Carolina
Former five-star recruit and Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler is transferring to South Carolina, per an announcement on his Twitter page.
Rattler spent three seasons with the Sooners, with his breakout campaign coming in 2020. The then-redshirt freshman threw for 3,031 yards, 28 touchdowns and seven interceptions, while boasting a completion percentage of 67.5. Entering the 2021 season, the 21-year-old was a preseason Heisman favorite before eventually losing the starting job to freshman Caleb Williams. Rattler totaled 1,483 yards through the air and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 11-5. He also completed 74.9% of his passes.
Rattler will be joined in Columbia (S.C.) by former Sooners tight end Austin Stogner. Stogner hauled in 40 receptions for 588 yards and six touchdowns in his last two seasons in Norman.
Rattler – the No. 11-ranked recruit in the class of 2019 according to the 247Sports Composite – figures to be the Day 1 starter come South Carolina’s 2022 season-opener against Georgia State. The Gamecocks are coming off of a 6-6 campaign in 2021, while also riding a seven-game losing streak against in-state rival Clemson – something that Rattler and coach Shane Beamer will be looking to turn around.
