Marist Liufau 2024 NFL Draft Profile
Marist Liufau is up next for the 2024 NFL Draft Profile series. We’re talking shop on the Notre Dame linebacker so let’s get on with it and talk about the good stuff.
Liufau was actually mentioned a bunch during the Stock Report series. He was a guy that popped off the screen for me. Found his way around the ball constantly. Just feels like a guy who has a good football IQ on him and knows where to be.
The Kalihi, Hawaii native measures in at 6-foot-2, 234 but didn’t have the greatest testing numbers in the world. He’s missing some long area speed notching just a 4.64. Not exactly ideal but might not be a death sentence either. One thing he has going for him is the crazy length. Over 34 inch arms for a linebacker is kinda nuts.
The Combine performance on the whole was up and down. Got stuck in the mud on certain occasions. Has good eye level and instincts. Pretty good at taking on blocks in the run game. Good gang tackler too getting his guys to rally to the football.
This is a guy who is just a better football player than a pure athlete. Liufau was recruited as a four star guy coming out of high school. 2023 was his best season. Liufau notched three sacks and 44 tackles. Needs to improve in coverage.
I have a 4th/5th round grade on Marist Liufau. A player that can develop into a starting inside linebacker but his lack of long speed hurts his stock. Think he’s better than Manti Teo but the limitations here shouldn’t be totally ignored.
