Elijah Higgins 2023 NFL Draft Profile
Yes, there are two Stanford Cardinal wide outs this year. Except this one might actually be more of a project tight end? Let’s get right into it before I spill too much tea. Here is your 2023 NFL Draft profile on Elijah Higgins.
Speaking of tight end, this is a big body and my eyes tell me that’s exactly who he is. You know, the Chase Claypool weapon we never truly got to see. Higgins checks in at 6-foot-3, 235. Looks, screams, and plays like a tight end. That’s what I saw at the Senior Bowl anyway. My Senior Bowl stuff on Higgins can be found here.
I just don’t see anyway where he’s an outside receiver and gets open. The speed is fine (4.54) but would be awesome as an inside tight end. Higgins played a lot of slot at Stanford anyway. Is quicker than fast too. Has some savvy foot work but won’t wow you as a burner. Has some wiggle too. The route running isn’t really a problem. Especially if he were to change positions. Then he would be a huge plus.
I think the real question here is how effective he would be as a touchdown guy. Someone that can do damage in the red area. The production really doesn’t match that (just six total touchdowns in his career) but I think eyeball test tells me he can do it. I like the hands. He fights through traffic even if he’s not a pure A in a dawg mentality. We also have to remember Stanford is terrible so it’s not like those opportunities were plentiful.
I saw nothing from Higgins that would indicate that he can’t block. The exact opposite actually. This is a really good athlete and a former 4-star recruit.
I have Higgins as a round 5 guy. One of those late round tight ends you’re willing to use a pick on that could really blossom down the line if everything goes well.
