It’s the end of an era. One of the most successful American born goalies is officially calling it quits. Long time NHL netminder Craig Anderson has announced his retirement from the NHL. His playing days are over. However, Anderson’s final game sure went down as a storybook ending.
Casey Mittlestadt scored the overtime winner for Buffalo in the regular season finale. The fellas are stormed after Anderson after it was over.
“This is it,” Anderson said after a 30-save performance in Buffalo’s home finale in which he was mobbed by his teammates and celebrated in front of a crowd chanting, “Andy! Andy! Andy!” after Casey Mittelstadt scored to secure the win 1:18 into the extra frame.
“I think I left it all out there. At the end of the day, I did everything I possibly could to make sure that I was competitive and gave the team a chance to win,” Anderson added. “You’ve got to be honest with yourself. And that’s just the way this game goes, Father Time always catches up to you.”
Anderson, 41, spent a vast majority of his career with the Ottawa Senators which seems really fitting that his final game was against his former club. Anderson owned a stellar .914 save percentage with Ottawa and led the league in that category (.941) during the lockout shortened 2012-13 season.
Anderson ranks 11th among goalies with 318 wins all-time. After finishing his career with Buffalo, the now retired goalie also spent time with the Chicago Blackhawks, Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, and Washington Capitals. It was a great run for Craig Anderson!
