Trey Palmer 2023 NFL Draft Profile

Trey Palmer has a chance to be one of those sleeper prospects heading into the 2023 NFL Draft. The Nebraska receiver could be one of those hidden gems this szn. Let’s talk about him some more. Here is your Trey Palmer 2023 NFL Draft profile.

I think the thing that was the most surprising about Trey Palmer this predraft process was the pure speed. I knew he could run, or at least had an idea of that being the case. He is an LSU transfer after all and most of their guys are built different. But a 4.33? He really has that kind of gas in the tank? That’s next level.

The size doesn’t blow you away. Palmer checks in at 6-foot, 192. The recruiting profile, however, is there. Former 4-star guy and 18th overall wide receiver nationally. Palmer also comes with kick and punt return experience but did so more at LSU.

Palmer was mentioned during the stock report notes. More so before the wheels fell off at Nebraska and they were no longer watchable. The route tree is really limited. I just don’t understand how. Never looks nearly as fast trying to make certain cuts. Also has very questionable hands. With someone that has these type of movement skills, why can’t he function in certain routes? That’s really what’s knocking him.

The production was good. Palmer did his part this past year at Nebraska under less than ideal circumstances. We’re talking about 71 catches for 1,043 yards and nine touchdowns. Also averaged 15 yards per rushing attempt on five carries. Got some action on those rushing jet sweeps. That again is what we’re talking about with the route running. Just wasn’t asked to do a ton but why?

I have Palmer in the 5th-6th round range. Limited catch radius, bad hands, and a limited route tree are things that knock him down the pecking order. Former LSU player but had to transfer out. Has talented but still a project. A project that has potential.
