Let’s check back in on Eeli Tolvanen who now has spent the last 34 games with the Seattle Kraken after being claimed off waivers from Nashville. You know, the same guy David Poile admitted he made a mistake about giving up on Tolvanen. It might have even cost him his job with the Predators. So why not check back in on Tolvanen to see how he’s doing?
So far so good for the former Preds first round pick. Tolvanen has 22 points in 34 games while playing under 15 minutes a night. He also is about as cheap as it gets carrying a $1.5 million AAV over next year. If you ask Tolvanen, he’s thrilled that he ended up in Seattle.
“You never want to go on waivers – means you’re doing something wrong or you’re not producing,” the forward said, according to Seattle Sports’ Andy Eide. “I look at it as things didn’t go as planned, and I was kind of really happy about the fresh start, getting a new city, new team, new guys, a new coaching staff, off to (a) new organization.
“I was really excited to come here and, you know, it was the best stuff for me and I’ve been happy every second.”
Tolvanen, 23, just might have a bright future ahead of himself in Seattle. It’s a fun Kraken team that’s set to make their first postseason appearance in just their second season of existence. Making smart acquisitions like Tolvanen have been part of that process for the Kraken to get to this point.
