Jonah Williams Requests Trade Away From Bengals
Orlando Brown is the newest member of the Cincinnati Bengals and one member on the current offensive line isn’t too thrilled about the addition. Maybe because Brown is coming in to replace said player. Former first round pick Jonah Williams sees the writing on the wall and has requested a trade out of Cincinnati.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
The crazy part is Brown and Williams were picked just one year apart. Brown went in the fourth round in 2018 while Williams was the 11th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Williams has struggled to stay on the field constantly battling injuries. Williams also wasn’t that good either when he played. The former Alabama product ranked 55th out of 64 qualified tackles in pass block win rate and 44th in run block win rate in 2022.
How much leverage does Cincinnati hold in potential trade talks? Teams always do need tackles so I’m sure the Bengals won’t have any issue finding a trade partner. The problem is that Williams is in the final year of his rookie contract. If there is a time to move Williams, it’s now.
Of course, the Bengals don’t have to oblige and do have a very easy option to consider. With Brown sliding in as the new left tackle, Cincinnati could move Williams to the right side. La’El Collins playing guard would really beef up what was once considered a really bad Bengals offensive line. Time will tell if Cincy trades Williams. I’m sure they won’t want to give him away for free knowing a comp pick will come their way the following year if he walks in free agency.
