Eagles Offseason Needs 2021 – Cash, They Need Cash

The list of Eagles offseason needs is long. Very long. The team is so bad it’s likely that they need to start a five-year rebuild.

The Eagles are probably the worst organization in the league right now ( I use the term organization loosely here. They are by no means organized). You could argue the Texans are the worst but at least they don’t have Howie Roseman.

The biggest problem with this team right now (besides Roseman) is their cap situation. The team is currently ranked 31st in the league in cap space being 47 million over.

The Eagles need cash. They have some options to free space but nothing that is going to help them do anything significant in free agency.

Cuts

The team has already started the process by cutting Desean Jackson. That move saved them around five million dollars.

The next two that go will probably be Alshon Jeffery and Malik Jackson. Jeffery is always injured and Jackson has just been terrible.

Cutting Marquise Goodwin will save around four million in cap. If they cut or trade Zack Ertz that would save another four million.

The Draft

Like I said before, they should probably start a rebuild. The Eagles roster has more wholes that need filling than your mom on Friday Night.

With the aforementioned shit show that is their cap the only way those wholes get filled is in the draft. The problem is that Howie Roseman is terrible and can’t draft. You could even make that argument that one of the Eagles offseason needs would be to fire Roseman.

That probably won’t happen.

Offensive Line

The Eagles need to use this draft to take care of Jalen Hurts. He’s your starter now. This offensive line was not good last year. The Eagles gave up the most sacks in the league.

Brandon Brooks coming back next year is good. Andre Dillard comes back too but, he didn’t look good when he did play in his rookie season. Jason Kelce was talked out of retirement last season so he may hang it up this offseason.

Lane Johnson and Brandon Brooks are two of the best at their respective positions however, depth was an issue. Brooks was lost for the season and Johnson was nagged by a foot injury all year. Their replacements either sucked or got injured themselves.

They have to invest heavily on the offensive line in this draft.

Wide Receiver

Also, expect the Eagles to target wide receivers. They reached on Jalen Reagor last year in the first round. I’m not ready to close the book on him yet but, you can’t help compare him to Justin Jefferson.

I think Travis Fulgham and Greg Ward are players. Neither is going to be a franchise changer though.

None of the other wide outs are worth mentioning.

Linebacker

Under Jim Schwartz, this team decided linebackers weren’t important. They were wrong.

The Eagles were great at stopping the run early in the game because of Fletcher Cox but, late in the game or if they played a particularly good back (like Zeke Elliot who is in their division) they struggled. They have no one at this position.

Last year they took a project linebacker in the third round of the draft (Davion Taylor). He never saw the field. Nate Gerry might legitimately be the worst football player I’ve ever seen.

Alex Singleton might be a good backup.

Linebackers are important. They need to fill the whole the created when they let Jordan Hicks walk.

Defensive End

Yes, they have Brandon Graham. He turns 33 in April though. You have to prepare for his decline and eventual retirement.

Derek Barnett will likely be gone next year. He has been injured more often than not. The Eagles could pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie deal but, five and a half sacks don’t quite justify that considering the Eagles cap problems.

Josh Sweat might be something. He was second on the team in sacks last year with six. He’s also relatively cheap as a third-round pick.

The list Eagles offseason needs seems like it’s never-ending. They really need help at every position, the only exception is defensive tackle. Unfortunately with Howie making the picks, I doubt it works out. The good news is the Eagles will suck next year and Howie will hopefully get fired.
