A pair of Duke basketball players, Michael Savarino and Paolo Banchero, received DWI-related citations after being pulled over by officers on Sunday in Orange County, North Carolina, as first reported by Steve Wiseman of the News & Observer.

Savarino, Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski’s grandson, was pulled over for a stop sign violation at 1:10 am. The officer quickly observed signs of impairment, per the N&O. Savarino, 20, was taken into custody after a breathalyzer revealed a 0.08 blood alcohol content level. Savarino admitted to the officer that he had been drinking and was charged with DWI, driving after consuming alcohol while under the age of 21 and the stop sign violation, per the News & Observer.

Banchero, 19 years old and the potential No. 1 pick in next year’s NBA Draft, was cited with aiding and abetting a DWI, per the report, and was released from the site of the stop. According to the citation, Banchero was in the backseat of the car, which was registered in his name.

In a statement released to the News & Observer, Krzyzewski said that Duke would be reviewing the situation.

“We are reviewing a legal matter involving two members of the men’s basketball team. Any further actions as a result of this situation will ultimately be determined by the Vice President/Director of Athletics and University officials.”

Banchero is averaging 19.3 points and 8.7 rebounds in the three games Duke has played this season. Savarino, a former walk-on, was awarded a scholarship last summer.

No announcement has been made regarding any potential discipline or suspension the pair may receive. The Blue Devils play host to Gardner-Webb on Tuesday – Banchero did play, while Savarino was not on the bench.
