Drew Brees Signs With NBC Sports

Drew Brees was being chased by television networks to broadcast games once his playing career was over. ESPN and NBC Sports were bidding for his services. Brees opted to sign with NBC over ESPN. The contract will begin once Brees decides to retire from the league. The Saints quarterback signed a two-year contract with New Orleans this offseason. This is a huge splash for NBC.

Andrew Marchand of the New York Post had the following:

“Drew Brees is signing with NBC Sports over ESPN in a move that will make him a fixture on NFL telecasts far after he finishes playing, The Post has learned.

In a contract that will begin after Brees retires from the Saints, the 41-year-old will be groomed as the potential replacement for Cris Collinsworth on “Sunday Night Football,” according to sources.

“Like all NFL fans, we look forward to watching Drew continue his Hall of Fame career this fall, and we are confident his post-playing career will be just as successful,” NBC Sports spokesman Greg Hughes told The Post.

NBC already has a succession plan for Collinsworth’s SNF partner, Al Michaels. After the 2022 Super Bowl, Mike Tirico is going to take over full-time for Michaels.”

First reaction? Hahahahahaha ESPN is SUCH A JOKE! Nobody wants to work for them. Tony Romo said no. Then Al Michaels and Peyton Manning said no. Now Drew Brees said no. We’re either going to get another year of Booger McFarland and Joe Tessitore or the internal options being discussed (Dan Orlovsky and Louis Riddick). This just shows how big of a clown show this company has become. Stephen A has become the poster boy for ESPN being an uneducated sports platform where it’s important to scream instead of being knowledgeable.

The good news here is it looks like Cris Collinsworth is OUT when Brees retires. When that day comes, I will throw a party. It looks like the plan is for Sunday Night football to include Drew Brees and Mike Tirico.
