Dontayvion Wicks 2023 NFL Draft Profile

Dontayvion Wicks is another name in a wide open wide receiver draft. It’s actually a shame because Wicks had much more momentum going into last year. Some of which is his fault. Some of which is not. Let’s get right into it as we’re closing in on covering all the premier wide outs in the draft. Here is your Dontayvion Wicks 2023 NFL Draft Profile!

Recruited out of Louisiana, Wicks was highly sought after as a high school prospect. He ultimately chose to attend Virginia. Wicks was listed as a four-star guy but never got an ACC offer until a month before signing day. Wicks played a hybrid role in high school suiting up at quarterback as well. Maybe the Bryce Perkins that ultimately stayed at wide receiver?

Wicks grew on me late during the Senior Bowl process. I thought he made some big time catches and got open. Never was blown away but started to show his talent as the days went along at Mobile. Overall, the wide receivers at the Senior Bowl really blended together. However, it’s a good sign he started to make a name for himself.

This is someone who has put up numbers before. In 2021, Wicks put up 57 receptions, 1,203 receiving yards, and nine scores. This past year, the production took a step back took a step back. Then again, the first two games of the year were canceled via a shooting. Wicks then got hurt to end the year cutting his season short. Through eight games, Wicks put up just 430 yards and two touchdowns. Virginia wasn’t getting egregious quarterback play either.

Some of the measurables are intriguing but not enough to really get you excited. Wicks checks in at 6-foot-1, with 32-inch arms. The 4.62 40 time isn’t a death sentence but the 39-inch vertical helps ease those concerns. More than anything, Wicks needs to clean up the hands. 14 drops over the last two years in limited action just isn’t good enough. Wicks does have YAC ability but the drop in production this past year is really hard to ignore. I’m just not sure how talented the guy is.

Overall, I have Dontayvion Wicks as another undrafted player. There are just so many wide receivers that it’s hard to use a pick on this one. All for a preseason invite but not someone I’m prioritizing on draft day.
