Sorry… I Don’t Get The Trevor Penning Hype
Is someone really going to take Northern Iowa tackle, Trevor Penning in the first round? It certainly looks like it’s trending that way and it remains one of the 2022 NFL Draft’s great mysteries. Sorry… but I just don’t get this one at all. I want no part of this hype train.
These video highlights comprised a lot of my earlier thoughts from the Senior Bowl. It’s a good clip to really hone in on the fact that Penning sucked the entire week. His only moments were trying to act like a tough guy after the fact and somehow got credit for it by scouts and increased his draft stock? Tell me how it makes sense?
The Senior Bowl might not seem like a big deal to you, but it means almost everything for a guy like Penning. How much does it really matter if he looked good at Northern Iowa? The competition he’s going against every week is obviously significantly inferior to the talent he will go against at the NFL level. His Senior Bowl performance should be viewed as horrific. It’s not like he lit the world on fire at the combine either.
Penning might be a try hard guy. He might even have some toughness. He doesn’t look strong at all by the number of times I saw the guy get bull-rushed by dudes half his size. Not surprised he didn’t bench considering that fact. Doesn’t appear to be a crazy athlete either so how can you talk yourself into him being a high ceiling guy?
I don’t get this one at all. Not even a little. I know the offensive line class is weak but I think it’s flat out insane to take this guy in the first round.
