Don’t Eat The Cheese: 2020 Fantasy Football Quarterback Busts

The don’t eat the cheese series returns with the quarterback busts. This is my oldest running series ever. The purpose of this post is all about avoiding the players that will tank your fantasy season. Sometimes it’s more important to know who not to pick rather than who to pick. Trust me, there are players each year that ruin your fantasy season. Nothing is worse than that. Let’s take a look at the 2020 fantasy football quarterback busts. Don’t eat the cheese!

*no order

Tom Brady (Bucs)

This is such a joke. If you draft Tom Brady high in fantasy, you’re a knuckle head. Brady won’t come close to being as dominant as Jameis Winston was in fantasy last year.

Here are some stats you should keep in mind.

20 plus yard throws in 2019

James Winston 111

Tom Brady 64

Wait… there’s more.

Jameis Winston: 47 sacks, 31 scrambles, 30 interceptions

Tom Brady: 27 sacks, 3 scrambles, 8 interceptions

Tom can’t make those splash throws that Winston did last year. 5 years ago, different story. NOW? Brady has been a total check down machine. Now he’s going to be asked to do something wildly different for the first time in 20 years. Did you see him try to throw the ball down the field late in the season? It’s over.

Forget about the weapons. If Jameis got sacked 47 times, what’s going to happen to Brady? We don’t need to mention the fact that he’s a complete zero rushing the ball. Again, stop thinking about the weapons. Do you understand how bad Brady was last year? He ranked near the bottom of everything. Tampa has to win a different way than they did last year.

Brady threw for 169 yards against the Chiefs in a game that needed to be a shootout. 128 yards against Cincinnati. With a chance to wrap up a bye, they lost to Miami and Brady was horrendous. Brady got outdueled by Ryan Tannehill in a playoff game. 37 attempts against Tennessee 209 yards with no touchdowns and 1 interception. Now I’m supposed to believe that guy is going to be better with a new scheme, worse offensive line, and another year older? This whole thing is a joke.

This is the easiest bet in the books. Jameis Winston 2019 season results in more fantasy points than Brady in 2020. On an average point per game basis, Brady was QB 16 last year. Jameis was the third best quarterback in fantasy last year. Don’t be a moron. Brady might have a few decent weeks early but late in the season when it counts for the fantasy playoffs, he’s worthless.

Aaron Rodgers (Packers)

Rodgers is still really efficient but the days of him dominating are over. Rodgers was QB 14 last year on a points per game basis. I think it’s more of the same in 2020. The defense is much better preventing those hero ball games. The Packers also have a plan. They want to emulate the 49ers. No wide receivers in the draft. Instead, it was tight end, running back, and interior offensive lineman. They’re going to run the ball… a lot.

I thought 26 touchdowns and 4 picks was great for Rodgers. Still don’t many fantasy points. I just don’t see high end potential here. Plus, Rodgers has been one to get hurt in the past. There’s always a chance he goes insane because of the motivation to keep Jordan Love on the bench. Probably unlikely.

Ryan Tannehill (Titans)

Let’s call this an outlier season. C’mon…. it’s Ryan Tannehill! The man played with his hair on fire. I think they caught people by surprise. There’s no other explanation.

For starters, it’s a run first offense. He can’t be that good again. There’s just no way. This is Ryan Tannehill we’re talking about. That’s all I got. He won’t be nearly as good this year. The Titans made a mistake handing out that deal.

Jared Goff (Rams)

If you have been paying attention, the wheels are coming off on the Jared Goff thing. The guy just sucks. Sean McVay is doing a hell of a job keeping this thing together but he can’t save him. Todd Gurley is gone and wasn’t effective last year. It exposed Goff for the chump that he really is. I’m afraid it’s only going to get worse. Well, I shouldn’t say that because I said Goff was terrible from the jump.

The Rams QB wasn’t good last year. 22 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. This wasn’t a Super Bowl hangover. This was a teams have started to catch on to the heavy play action system of McVay and Goff isn’t good enough to overcome it.

Now the Rams have only gotten worse. They failed to fix the guard, center, guard issue. Cam Akers might save the Rams season but he won’t save Goff’s fantasy potential. He’s a bottom tier option however you slice it.
