The Dodgers Won’t Sign Carlos Correa Because Their Fans Hate Him

I can’t believe this isn’t fake news. What I’m about to tell you is real and very much not a joke. The Los Angeles Dodgers today allowed their fan base to make a real baseball decision today and we’re supposed to take their franchise seriously. The Dodgers allowed their uneducated sunshine and rainbow fanbase to make a real baseball decision. If that’s not the definition of embarrassing, then I don’t know what is. We’re going to talk about Carlos Correa today and it may get a little uncomfortable but I promise it’s absolutely necessary.

News came out today that the Andrew Friedman led Dodgers will not pursue shortstop Carlos Correa in free agency. Their reasoning is because their fans don’t like him because he was part of that championship Astros team that “stole signs”. Yes, that team that beat the Dodgers in the 2017 World Series.

I first saw this news on the Talkin’ Baseball Twitter account. If you want to read the full story, here is the link from which the information came. I have to provide my works cited. However, I just figured I’d warn you that it’s not necessary to click the link. It’s from The Athletic and this company has a firm policy on paywall writers. We don’t support them because we believe in free journalism. You should never have to pay a fee to access information. This company will do the right thing despite the fact of choosing the path of darkness.

You’re always going to be the villain in someone else’s story. This will be your call to decide whether you believe Andrew Friedman is unfit to be a MLB general manager. I am here to argue that he is.

Let’s make one thing very clear. This may very well be the GOAT in terms of Charmin Ultra soft moves. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of a softer move in my life. When you hear some boomer get mad about participation trophies, you then think to yourself, maybe someone shouldn’t have given Andrew Friedman one as a kid. Maybe he wouldn’t run his baseball team like a coward.

Little did I know the Dodgers had mental midget in their DNA. How many times has this Dodger team underachieved in the postseason? Their only title is the one that barely counts because it was the 60 game COVID season. Had they played a full 162, who knows who wins that title? We’ll never truly know but I’m just saying maybe it’s not a coincidence considering that’s the only title they have won since 1988.

One of the mental midgets is out the door so that’s good. Something we have been trying to tell everyone for years. Turns out I was right about the person I’m referring to in code so that you click the links. This is a side point but I’m obligated to make it. I don’t make the rules. The voices in my head do. They’re right more often than not so just keep paying attention.

Let’s just call it how it is. At what point do we have to start questioning Andrew Friedman’s manhood when he decides to make personnel decisions based on what some bums at the beach had to say after they had a few too many espresso martinis? Isn’t the reason why you make millions of dollars every year so that you can be smarter than the casual fan? Passing on Carlos Correa because your fans may or may not like him is irresponsible and a very slippery slope.

So where do we draw the line here? Are the fans going to start making the lineup card next? Are they allowed to start making trades too? What about in terms of giving up your beloved prospects in order to actually make the team better? Are we starting to understand how embarrassing this is and why I could run circles around all of these general managers? We’re not going to do ‘X’ because the fans said ‘Y’? Really?

This isn’t doing your job. Ignoring Correa isn’t doing your job. The San Francisco Giants are very interested in signing Correa this Winter. Even if you’re not interested in signing Correa at his eventual price tag, you’re not doing your job if you’re not making a division rival’s life harder. This is called competition and if Friedman isn’t interested in doing that then he shouldn’t keep his job. Hire someone else that will because the educated Dodger fans deserve better.

Once upon a time, I did question Friedman’s very manhood. Look, it’s right here for you. Riddle me this. The Dodgers just lost Trea Turner to Philadelphia. Tuner is one of the best players in baseball and is a perennial MVP candidate. The year before LA lost Corey Seager to Texas. That’s back-to-back years where you have lost premium middle infield talent. Now you are going to refuse to even entertain the idea of replacing them with another elite option because he was part of some team that your fan base thinks cheated? That’s all while you watch division rival most likely sign said player?

WTF. Those are the only words necessary. The same thing you would say if you watch someone take a butter shot out of nowhere are the same words that you should utter when describing this move by Friedman. The same thing Sak Noel says over and over in a song that somehow perfectly describes what’s happening with the Dodgers.

You want to talk about pathetic? Friedman should get that tattooed across his forehead. The things I said in the past weren’t too harsh and now we have even stronger proof of the coward that’s running this Dodgers team.

Carlos Correa is a really good baseball player and any team that needs a shortstop should be bidding on him. As a big market club, you are doing your organization a disservice by automatically crossing his name off the list.

Correa was a 5.4 WAR player in 2022. The industry standard is 1.0 WAR is worth about $8 million. That means Correa should make around $43 million per year. Turner had a 4.9 WAR replacement in 2022 and just got $300 million. Apparently, the Dodgers don’t have interest in those types of players. They’re okay with the Padres beating them come postseason time. I’m not going to stat pad you to death and you should get the point by now.

This is a new low in Dodgers’ land. The kids call this rock bottom. I don’t know what the solution is. Maybe fewer palm trees. All I know is Dodger fans should be embarrassed today for two reasons. Their general manager is a coward and he’s purposely going to stay out of the bidding because their fan base isn’t over something that happened five years ago. Trash. That’s what this franchise is.
