After a 41-38 loss to the Titans, the Texans locked up the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Oops… except the ghost of Bill O’Brien will haunt this franchise for several years to come. Deshaun Watson said what we already know. This team is screwed. There’s nothing to build on here.
VIA NFL.com:
“Man, it just starts with the energy and just the foundation of this program,” Watson said, via NFL Network’s James Palmer. “There’s no real foundation in view. Everyone sees it. Everyone knows that. Got to have a guy that can come in and stand strong, stand 10 toes down and, (say), ‘Hey, this is the way it’s going to go, and this is the way we’re going to win.’
“That’s what we need. It’s kind of just up in the air right now. That’s what I’m looking forward to, some disciplined responsibility and some good, fun energy that cares about winning championships and winning games but at the same time is coming in to work each and every day regardless.”
That was a nice way of saying I hate Bill O’Brien, thanks for screwing the franchise. After a 4-12 season, Houston does not own their first or second round draft picks because of the Laremy Tunsil trade. Furthermore, Houston is already over the cap next year.
Whoever takes this head coaching job is walking into a suicide mission. They have no good players. Despite having Deshaun Watson put up a historic season, the Texans still stunk. Watson led the NFL in passing yards (4,823) and set the club record for passing TDs (33) and the highest passer rating (112.4) for a single season.
