Davante Adams: 2022 Fantasy Football WR1?

Who is going to be the number one scoring fantasy football wide receiver for the 2022 NFL Season? Some believe that the answer is Justin Jefferson. Today, I’m going to make the case for Davante Adams instead. Adams has been ranked around WR5 all offseason and many people seem to be sleeping on what Adams could provide fantasy owners with his new team in Las Vegas.

I think a lot of the Adams disrespect this offseason comes from people not believing in Derek Carr. Sure, on paper there is a downgrade from Aaron Rodgers to Derek Carr. I’m not denying that. However, I would argue the move to Las Vegas could actually be a good thing for Adams.

It’s not like Derek Carr is a scrub and he’s never had someone this talented around him. Adams is going to get his targets. Some would argue that Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow being on the roster will take some of the target share away. However, you could also argue that having Waller and Renfrow on the roster makes Adams’ job far easier. You can’t really double and triple team Adams like teams could in Green Bay. Regardless, Adams should still lead the Raiders in fantasy points by a wide margin.

You don’t trade a first and second round pick to simply not throw the ball to a guy. That doesn’t make any sense.

Furthermore, this is the day that Derek Carr has been dreaming of. Well, probably both of them. Carr and Adams played together at Fresno State and were both taken in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Now they’re both reunited with the Raiders. Does that sound like a storybook ending that goes poorly?

I’m excited for the Carr – Adams connection. Not that we should put too much stock into this but the reports out of camp are that Adams looks unbelievable and Carr is feeding him early, often, and all the damn time.

How do you not love the game script stuff here too? The Packers have a way better defense than Vegas does. Green Bay has also looked to run the ball more since the Matt LaFleur hire. We could see some high scoring shootouts in the AFC West this year. That’s only good news for Adams. How many shootouts has Green Bay been in?

Isn’t there a range of outcomes out there where a historic Adams season is on the table here? Davante Adams is my pick for WR1 this year and I think a 2,000-yard 20 touchdown season is very much on the table.
