Davante Adams says playing with Derek Carr “would be a dream,” but the ever-realistic Adams also noted that he is still under contract with the Packers. Derek Carr was reportedly ready to do a “full-court press” to recruit Davante Adams in 2022, per an interview with ABC30’s Bri Mellon. Adams is unable to seriously talk about his future in public, as he still has to play the 2021 season. That being said, he seemed to keep the door open. The full quote is provided by NFL.com:
“I’ll just continue to be me and just let this thing kind of work itself out and see what happens,” Adams said in a separate interview with Mellon. “Obviously, I love Derek to death. We’ve got a great friendship and we still communicate really, really consistently. He’s one of my best friends. Obviously it would be a dream to be able to play with him. But I’m a Packer now. Until that point when we make that decision, I guess we just gotta, we’ll see what happens.”
Holy shit. As a Raiders fan, this situation is set up to disappoint, but nabbing a star WR after the disasters we have had would be a relief. We had Randy Moss in 2005-2006, where he did not try with the Raiders (understandable), and who could forget the 2019 Antonio Brown saga. The Raiders need a star receiver in the worst way.
Adams could be playing it by ear knowing that Jordan Love is going to suck and Aaron Rodgers is never coming back. A lot could happen before next offseason, when Adams would be available. Is he serious about the possibility of joining the Raiders? Carr and Adams have their history, as they played together at Fresno State. Is a reunion possible? Or is Adams just trying to put the idea down nicely? Time will tell, but if teaming up with Carr is a dream for Adams, Raiders fans will be dreaming of the possibility as well.
