Danny Ainge Begged Quin Snyder To Stay With Jazz
Apparently, Quin Snyder wanted out. Not the other way around. During a recent news conference, new Jazz CEO Danny Ainge spoke to reporters claiming that he absolutely wanted Snyder to remain the head coach of the Utah Jazz.
“We have spent the last few weeks talking, Quin and I, a lot about a lot of different things,” team CEO Danny Ainge said during a news conference Monday, a day after Snyder announced he was leaving. “And I think it’s pretty clear, we desperately wanted him to stay. And at the same time, I’ve walked away from coaching and I walked away from being a general manager after 18 years in Boston, and so I trust that Quin knows more what’s best for him and his family, much more than we do.”
We know changes are coming. I’m sure Snyder doesn’t want to stick around for a massive rebuild that’s coming. The Rudy Gobert – Donovan Mitchell break up appears imminent. After eight years in Utah, it’s understandable why Snyder wanted a fresh start.
“It was time,” Snyder said. “Time for the Jazz to move forward. Time for me to move forward. It just made the most sense to me.”
Snyder, 55, went 372-264 during his time with the Jazz. Snyder was successful during his time with Utah. The Jazz were just never able to advance past the second round of the postseason sparking the need for change.
This will be the third go around for Ainge picking a coach during his management tenure. Doc Rivers and Brad Stevens turned out like pretty good hires for the Jazz. Time will tell who the Jazz hire but it appears they aren’t in any rush.
“There’s a lot of names I know and I’m familiar with in the coaching world,” Ainge said. “This will be much different than the two previous and probably more thorough.”
“We’re going to take our time,” Ryan Smith said. “Got to get it right.”
