Colin Cowherd Has Literally No Idea How The NBA Works

Colin Cowherd Should Really Sit This One Out

Colin Cowherd somehow always finds a way to outdo himself in looking stupid. If you look through this website, you will find numerous articles about how bad of a job Colin Cowherd does on talking sports. I figured to link an NBA article from the outstanding Alex Cervantes here, but you can scroll and scroll to your heart’s content. Once again, Cowherd simply gets it wrong here. God-awful looks like a compliment if you wanted to describe his All-NBA Second Team picks. I want to go through each pick and truly showcase the idiocy at work here.

Lamelo Ball

First off, I do not want to disrespect LaMelo Ball here. I think he is an excellent player and is destined for multiple All-NBA teams in his very bright future. However, I do not think 2022 is the year for it. Especially if you think he is one of the 4 best guards in the NBA right now. Let’s get one thing straight: he has had a great season. He has turned this Charlotte team around and has laid a very strong foundation in only his second season. However, I just don’t think he makes an All-NBA team this season.

It is clearly a longshot when you consider guys like Steph Curry, Ja Morant, Luka Doncic, Trae Young, Donovan Mitchell, or Devin Booker are all in prime spots for All-NBA selections. Furthermore, Chris Paul and James Harden, and Zach LaVine are all sitting on the outside looking in alongside Lamelo. If you ask me, anything could happen next season. He could make an exceptional third-year leap like so many before him have. If Cowherd maybe used his head a little more, he hopefully would have realized that there are more deserving guards than Lamelo Ball this season.

Anthony Edwards

Anthony Edwards is in the exact same category as LaMelo for me. They are the two best players from the 2021 draft and are easily destined for stardom in the NBA. However, this is just not the year. If you also think about it, Edwards has been playing a lot as a forward for the Timberwolves this season. It makes sense as he would likely push someone out of Minnesota’s crowded backcourt with the likes of D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverly, and Josh Okogie.

No matter how you slice it, it is hard to see a reliable spot for Edwards this year. Especially when you consider names like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokoumpo, Jayson Tatum, DeMar DeRozan, Jimmy Butler, and others are all more than likely ahead of Edwards. I just can’t wrap my head around how Cowherd comes to these conclusions. If this was a future All-NBA Team, I could understand more. I can see at least 3 or maybe even 4 of the 5 players here being on this list in a year or two, but definitely not based on this season.

Tobias Harris

Ok, everyone, I’m gonna need some help on this one. How on God’s green earth is TOBIAS HARRIS remotely considered an All-NBA player? He wasn’t even an All-Star this year! Better yet, his numbers are even worse than last season! He’s scoring fewer points, on worse efficiency, as a third option on a high-seeded playoff team in the Eastern Conference. However, the third option is generous, as I could absolutely see Tyrese Maxey play a larger role in this Philly offense. At this point, I think the police should be called on Cowherd since he must be on some high-power drugs. I literally couldn’t believe what my eyes were telling me when I first saw Harris in this picture.

Julius Randle

A lot has been said about Julius Randle this season. Very little of it has been good. Last year, I was tooting my Knicks horn as they made the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference behind his stellar season. I was, however, on the fence about him getting a large extension over the summer. One year later, Randle and the Knicks have taken a complete 180 this season. He is looking much more like the hated first-year version of himself rather than the excellent second-year Randle Knicks fans fell in love with.

You could not doubt Randle being on the All-NBA second team last year. It was the best season of his career and also resulted in surprising team success. However, Randle was a shell of himself this year. Instead of torching defenses and defending the Knicks until the very last, he is torching the New York media and deleting most of the Knicks’ photos he had off social media. Once again, Cowherd entirely missed the mark, making him 0/4 so far.

Karl-Anthony Towns

Towns is the only player out of this list I could see making it on the second team. In his seventh season, he is putting up strong numbers as the primary scoring option for a playoff team in the Western Conference. If both Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic can qualify for the All-NBA first team, I could absolutely see KAT slide into the Second Team. However, if only one big man can fit the bill, then Towns would most definitely move down to the Third Team. It’s also worth mentioning that guys like Rudy Gobert and Jarrett Allen have a case for being All-NBA as well. So now, on the 5th and final player, Cowherd may have finally struck gold. 1/5 is generous but should be expected at this point for an analyst like him.

In a slightly shocking fashion, Colin Cowherd has once again embarrassed himself in front of the sports world. He made a woefully incorrect All-NBA Second Team for 2021/22. But hey, there’s always next year, right?
