The New England Patriots and defensive lineman Christian Barmore have agreed to a four-year extension worth up to $92 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
According to Schefter, Barmore’s contract will be New England’s largest contract in franchise history that isn’t former quarterback Tom Brady.
Before the contract extension, the defensive lineman was entering the last year of his rookie deal and was set to make $1.82 million.
Barmore, 24, had the best season of his career last season. Barmore registered 8.5 sacks, 64 total tackles and a forced fumble. Throughout his three years with New England, Barmore had 12.5 sacks and 133 combined tackles in 44 games.
“Three-years ago, Christian and I sat in the greenroom at the NFL Draft on night 1 and his name was not called. He would eventually slide to round 2, and that became one of the hardest nights of my career,” Barmore’s agent Nicole Lynn posted to X. “Fast forward and now he is one of the highest paid DTs. God is always faithful!”
The New England Patriots will enter a new era after departing ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick and with new first-year HC Jerod Mayo at the helm.
Christian Barmore will be working in a similar system this upcoming season, as the Patriots promoted former defensive lineman coach DeMarcus Covington to the team’s defensive coordinator spot.
The New England Patriots have retained and added multiple players in the free agency. Including running backs Antonio Gibson, Jalen Reagor and Jacoby Brissett. The Patriots also recently drafted Drake Maye with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
