Chargers Fire Anthony Lynn
First, a moment to celebrate. Anthony Lynn has officially been fired. Let’s soak it in together. Pop the champagne bottles for the morons.
Despite ending the season on a four game winning streak, Anthony Lynn is out. Weird how a running back coach didn’t covert into a successfully NFL head coach. Real shame.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
Team owner Dean Spanos gave a statement on the decision to fire Lynn:
On the surface, the Chargers job seems enticing. Justin Herbert at minimum looks like he can play. Herbert, 22, set the NFL rookie record for passing touchdowns in a season.
The roster is not the issue. Keenan Allen, Derwin James, Joey Bosa, etc. Los Angeles has real star power. With some fixing up of the offensive line, the Chargers should be in a position to win right away. Well, that is unless they hire another running back coach.
Let’s be honest; Lynn was a disaster. Despite all sorts of talent, Lynn proved he was not capable of being an NFL head coach. I’m just not sure how more people didn’t see that coming. Dean Spanos should probably fire Tom Telesco while he’s at it for hiring Lynn in the first place.
After a 5-11 2019 season and 7-9 2020 season, the Chargers finally fired clueless Lynn. LA has some of the nicest uniforms in the league so it will be great to see them move in a better direction. Time will tell who they hire as the next head coach of the franchise.
