Zeke isn’t done feasting yet, as Ezekiel Elliott has agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Chargers to join their practice squad, according to Ian Rapoport.
If you’re a football fan in any way, I don’t need to explain the fall of Ezekiel Elliott. At 29 years old, it’s painfully clear that his best playing days are well behind him, with 2022 serving as his last productive year in which he tallied just under one thousand all-purpose yards and 12 TD’s.
He was one of the most feared running backs in the league during his first three years. However, off-the-field antics saw him suspended six games in 2017, paired with the short lifespan of the modern NFL running back. You can see how it all went wrong so quickly.
Since then, it’s been a sharp decline for Elliott, who was released by the Cowboys ahead of the 2023 season. Elliott would go on to play for the Patriots for the 2023 season, posting mediocre numbers before being signed by the Cowboys again ahead of this season.
But this year has arguably been the worst of Ezekiel Elliott’s career, where he posted 226 yards on 74 carries.
For the Chargers, I suppose this is a decent addition in terms of depth. We all know the injury history of J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, who have both already missed time this season. So, it’s not a terrible idea to have a guy like Elliott in case of an emergency.
Especially when that plan, as of now, involves Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal. But then again, are we sure those two aren’t better than Ezekiel Elliott at this point? I suppose you’d be getting a lot more experience, but is it worth it at a certain point?
Truth is, Ezekiel Elliott likely never sees the field for the Chargers. Barring an injury to one of the two major guys. But It’s not a terrible idea for the Chargers to bring him in should they need the experience in case of an injury.
The Chargers are gearing up for a playoff run, and getting a guy like Elliott for basically nothing isn’t a bad way to sure up the run game. Just hope you don’t end up having to rely on him at all. That is when things get really bad.
