Brandon Stokley rips Sean Payton after embarrassing loss

Following one of the most embarrassing losses in NFL history to the Miami Dolphins Sunday (70-20), Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton ripped the media. In response, former Broncos wide receiver and now radio host Brandon Stokley had some interesting comments regarding Payton’s actions.

Payton has been all over the media this season, as he enters into his debut as the Broncos’ new head coach, from bashing former Denver head coach Nathaniel Hackett for his job with the team last season to taking shots at Hackett‘s new team, the New York Jets.

Payton has had no quiet mouth this offseason, and not to mention, his expectations for the Broncos were sky-high coming into 2023. Now with an 0-3 record thanks to the likes of the Raiders, Commanders and Dolphins, Payton has taken more hate out of his pocket following the most recent loss.

After the brutal loss to a high-power Miami Dolphins team, Payton didn’t take the local media reporters’ comments lightly. Payton went out of his way to scold multiple reporters and even raised his voice to them during his presser. In doing this, the media world gave their own scolding to the 59-year-old, including former Broncos wide receiver Brandon Stokley.

“Honestly here, and I’m a Sean Payton fan here,” Stokley said. “He has treated the local media differently. Right? You don’t get passes when you come in and you try to change everything and you treat the local media one way but the national media another way.

You’re their best friend. They can have full access and whatever they want, whatever they need, they’ve got. Local media? We’ve been relegated. All of a sudden, everything looks different than in the past and the performance was awful.”

Before attending to the Broncos’ head coaching duties, Payton took a role as an analyst for Fox Sports in 2022, following the footsteps of many coaches during their after-coaching experience.

Brandon Stokley wouldn’t stop there, however. The radio host laid out his spread and feasted on Payton’s actions towards the media from last Sunday. The 15-year NFL veteran would go on to mock Payton, calling him a “big boy.”

You’ve just got to get up there and take it like a big boy,” he said. “You don’t need to fire back at a reporter like that. It’s uncalled for, it’s unnecessary. I can promise you this, promise you! If that was a national reporter, if that was Seth Wickersham or Jarrett Bell, he wouldn’t have answered it like that I can promise you that. And that’s what pisses me off.”

Before the season kicked off, Payton promised Broncos country that he would turn their abandoned ship around.

This past July, Payton said everything that Hackett did with the Broncos, they’re doing the opposite. Now with an 0-3 record, cocky Payton couldn’t have eaten his words even more. Becoming cocky and outlandish after an 0-3 start is one thing; doing it to the media after being beaten by 50 points is downright disrespectful. This comes as no surprise from a coach with a cheating history.

Can Payton turn the Broncos season around? Or will karma bite him in the behind even more? Let us know in the comments below.
