Sean Payton Torches Nathaniel Hackett
It’s pretty safe to say that Sean Payton thinks Nathaniel Hackett is the worst head coach of all time. The Broncos stunk in 2022 during Hackett’s lone season as the coach in Denver posting a record of 5-12. Payton seems pretty confident that Denver will be miles better under his watch and completely shredded Hackett in a recent interview.
“It might have been one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL,” Payton told Bell. “That’s how bad it was.”
Feel free to click that link for the entire interview because there is some juicy quotes in there. It’s very rare that a coach is this open about taking a shot at another coach. I still think he’s a moron for taking the Broncos job. The only thing this interview did was put a target on his back. The Broncos better be way better in 2023. Ditto for Russell Wilson. If that doesn’t happen, Payton is going to look really bad for taking this unprovoked shot.
I think my favorite part of this interview was the fact that Payton basically said the Jets are going to stink this year because Hackett coaches for them. I can’t remember the last time an NFL head coach did something similar to this.
“Everything I heard about last season, we’re doing the opposite,”. “We’re not doing any of that,” Payton said. “The Jets did that this year. You watch. Hard Knocks, all of it. I can see it coming.”
Hackett is the new offensive coordinator for the Jets. He was Aaron Rodgers’ guy with the Packers. It’s also a lot easier being a play caller compared to being a head coach and running every facet of an organization. Still, an incredibly bold statement by Payton to not only take shots at Hackett but also proclaim that the Jets are going to struggle because of him.
Talk about putting a target on your back. The Broncos better be miles better or Payton is going to have some explaining to do.
