Brad Stevens Belongs In Jail

The Boston Celtics pissed away a prime chance to bring Banner 18 home and instead pissed down their leg in an embarrassing fashion. The Celtics should have been swept but instead got blasted in Game 7 by the Miami Heat in the 2022-23 NBA Eastern Conference Finals. There is only one man who can be blamed for this travesty. Brad Stevens belongs in jail and the longer he remains in charge of this Celtics team, the more irreversible damage will be done.

Boston used to be the city of champions. Now it’s the city of pussy boy general managers that don’t have a clue what it takes to actually win. We’re seeing it with the painfully average new Boston Red Sox under Chaim Bloom. Brad Stevens is no different. Somehow he might actually be worse. Either way, both of them have small balls, are totally incompetent, and are causing irreparable damage the longer they are around.

This Celtics team could have very easily won the title. From top to bottom, this roster is stacked. Of course, it’s a roster that Stevens completely inherited. Seven players from the Danny Ainge led front office are still on the roster. It’s eight if you include Al Horford on that list who Steven re-acquired but we’ll get to that later.

This is the important part. Boston has made the Eastern Conference Finals in five of the last seven years. Ainge put all the pieces on the roster necessary to build a contender. All Stevens had to do was put the finishing touches on it. He’s bombed virtually every single decision he’s made. Literally every single one. He’s not built for a front office role and anybody willing to say otherwise isn’t paying attention or is uneducated.

The 2023 team was set up to fail. I said it then and I’ll say it again. What happened with Ime Udoka is completely ridiculous. Anybody with a pair of eyes knew Stevens was acting like a coward. It’s now predictably come out that players thought the Udoka situation was an HR issue.

We still don’t know what happened with Udoka. They won’t tell us. Udoka was laying pipe and I’d argue there is absolutely nothing wrong with indulging in your reproductive animal instincts. We also know it couldn’t have been that bad because Udoka basically got the first head coaching job that came available with Houston months later. Even if it was bad, why didn’t Stevens follow through on his word and actually suspend Udoka? Why did the NBA never do an investigation?

The NBA never suspended Udoka. The Celtics also didn’t hold up their end of the bargain. Stevens just wanted him out of the building and we never got the full story. That’s it. All for laying down some wood with a female employee that was deemed consensual. The only logical explanation is that Stevens isn’t packing that kind of heat downstairs so he had to hire another small dick energy coach for the rest of the season.

Regardless, as a former head coach himself, you would think Stevens would be fully aware that pairing a championship team with Joe Mazzulla that has zero experience wasn’t going to work. It would have been one thing had Will Hardy been promoted. The Celtics essentially put a fourth string head coach in (if you include Damon Stoudamire getting the Georgia Tech job) and didn’t even try to bring in a babysitter. Frank Vogel was just sitting there and Boston ignored it.

We’re all seeing it. This Miami series is a bear bottom spanking. The Celtics are the worst coached team in the playoffs and Erik Spoelstra is taking them to the woodshed. The most infuriating part is it all could have been avoided. Whether it was to keep Udoka and or bring in a babysitter like Vogel, the Celtics chose the incompetent route and there is no excuse for it. The Celtics should have been swept by a team that had a negative point differential in the regular season. If you swapped coaches, the Celtics would be going to the finals.

This is the Boston Celtics we’re talking about. This is the most historic and storied franchise in NBA history. If Boston is being outsmarted and out-schemed, the guy running the show should have his job anymore. Red Auerbach would be rolling in his grave if still alive today cause this wouldn’t happen under his watch.

Why should Stevens keep his job after that alone? Shouldn’t this be the part of the job that Stevens is good at? The guy was a respected coach at the NBA and college level for a long time. The fact that Stevens really put a lame duck in that position should be deemed unforgivable.

The Celtics never really stood a chance after they botched the coaching side of things. It should also be noted that Stevens is a complete and utter dope on the personnel side of things too. The guy has one successful trade and he probably shouldn’t even get credit for it. The guy he pushed out the door (Udoka) was the guy pleading for Derrick White. It’s Stevens’ only good move and he wasn’t the driving force into landing him. Of course, White and Udoka knew each other during their time with the Spurs.

Shall we do a rundown on the other idiotic things Stevens did?

  • Gave up the rights to Alperen Şengün in the nonsense Al Horford trade. Şengün isn’t a finished product but he looks damn good and should have been a Celtic. Instead, Stevens gave him away because he was too desperate to move off Kemba Walker. It’s going to be remembered as a horrific trade.

  • Tried to trade Jaylen Brown for Kevin Durant. Oh, it would have also included Marcus Smart and Derrick White. A trade that would have been a disaster. He’s basically lucky Sean Marks got greedy and kept persisting for me. It also damaged the relationship with Brown. Another unforgivable decision by Stevens.
  • The offseason was a joke. I said it 800 times. Kevin Huerter was the move. We saw the impact Huerter made with the Kings. The Celtics needed real wing depth behind Tatum and Brown. Stevens botched it and signed a guy who never plays. Worse yet, the guy who never plays (Danilo Gallinari) got hurt playing for the Italian National team which should have never been allowed in the first place.
  • The Malcolm Brogdon trade was fine, I guess, but it also caused a negative ripple effect. Boston is going to be forced to trade away Payton Pritchard when he was more than suitable as a third guard behind Smart and White. If anything, Brogdon has clogged the backcourt and they have a real decision to make if they want to extend an aging point guard who also has his own injury history.

The Celtics never got better this offseason and it showed. I can also talk about how the Celtics gave up two second round picks for Mike Muscala to play zero minutes in meaningful playoff games but I don’t even need to. Nothing Stevens does makes sense.

Stevens’ offseason cost the Celtics and I’m not sure how you argue it. Want to hear something funnier?

The Derrick White tip-in never happens if Brogdon plays in Game 6. In game 7 Brogdon was 0-3 in seven minutes. It’s unforgivable and was always the wrong move for this team.

Jail. That’s where Brad Stevens belongs. Jail while having nightmares of Udoka laying it down while he’s getting thrown around by another inmate. That’s what Stevens deserves. The Celtics are embarrassing and the coward in charge upstairs is the only one that needs to be blamed. I hate Brad Stevens and every Celtics fan should feel how I do. He ruined what could have been a championship team. The Celtics chose the wrong guy. Ainge shouldn’t have been fired and we all know it.

Side note: none of this is on Joe Mazzulla. He might end up being a good coach eventually who knows. It’s not his fault he was rushed into power in the blink of an eye without having proper time to prepare. Not enough experience and inserted during the absolute possible time.

Side note: It turns out coaching and culture matter.

Guy making calls for the heat chainsaws shit and challenges you to push-up contests.

Guy running the Celtics fires you for being too good at throwing it down.

Is anyone surprised by the result?
