Michael Jordan once said Republicans buy sneakers too. Dave Portnoy decided to take it a step further by getting into bed with them. Barstool Sports has agreed to a partnership deal with the conservative-leaning Rumble video platform.
Rumble was the first to announce the news with this Tweet.
The Barstool founder gave a short release via Awful Announcing regarding the news.
“I’m excited about Rumble’s commitment to sports and broadening audiences,” Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy said in a release. “With the power of Barstool Sports, we are going to help Rumble be the top player in the video, cloud, and livestreaming space.”
He plans to do a sit-down interview with CEO Chris Pavlovski at 3 pm EST.
Portnoy, 46, owns 100% of Barstool again after the split with Penn. Would this deal have gone through if Penn still owned Barstool? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, there is no umbrella over Barstool anymore. Portnoy doesn’t have to pretend that he wants Clay Travis to stick a finger in his ass. Now they can be happily ever after while bragging about how much money they make from conservative networks. Maybe Travis can make him happy in ways his ex who used him for money never did!
Barstool is bleeding money like the rest of the sports media industry. This is one way to try to make up for the losses. The positive here is that Portnoy’s employees don’t respect him so this deal won’t affect company morale one way or another.
Jokes aside, context clues would lead you to believe problems with YouTube led Barstool to this decision. Barstool had YouTube issues with Surviving Barstool. Series like that will likely go exclusively on Rumble.
