Dave Portnoy Opened Up About His Recent Breakup

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy recently broke up with Silvana Mojica, his girlfriend of three years. He seemed to have taken most of the blame on his podcast “BFFs.”

“I guess you get to a point where you think maybe there’s a difference in what somebody wants versus what the other person wants and without going into too much detail, I just didn’t think I could give Silvana kind of what she deserves,” Portnoy said, according to the New York Post. “She’s so beautiful, she’s funny, she’s smart, she’s all these things, it’s probably a ‘me’ issue because I’m old and single at this point… but if I don’t think I’m the guy that she is looking for and is going to be able to provide her with what she needs down the road… it’s like what are you doing.”

Dave Portnoy is 46-years-old and his ex-girlfriend is 28; age had to have played some factor, but there were definitely other things going on. Portnoy was willing to explain some details, but didn’t “want to get too personal.”

“I don’t want to put words into her mouth,” he said. “I’ll just say it was a conversation that it wasn’t the first time her and I had had that conversation. So it was not out of left field. But it’s still hard for me — I am still kinda seeing what she said — it sucks. You lose your best friend and someone you want to spend the rest of your life with overnight.”

It seems like this was bound to happen and Portnoy knew he was on borrowed time.

“I knew, eventually, I thought, a breakup was going to happen so to let days continue to go by…” he said.

At his age, bouncing back from a long-term relationship breakup can be difficult. Despite his current struggles, I’m sure he has plenty of other ventures to keep him busy and happy. Dating much younger people isn’t for everyone, and maybe Portnoy has learned a valuable lesson from this.
