Bam Adebayo Pissed Off Kevin Durant By Violating This Unwritten Rule

Someone needs to remind Bam Adebayo about the “make it take it” rule. It is an essential guideline taught at street basketball forums around the world. The 2020 All-Star seemingly disregarded this rule entirely during a Team USA shootaround and Durant, in typical fashion, took to Twitter to vent his frustrations:

But Wait… There’s More

Durant hit the nail on the head. Even though there was some dodgy recording at work, he was visibly surprised when Adebayo simply took the ball and began nonchalantly dribbling. Just about everyone who has touched a basketball knows this. Come on Bam! I might have the worst jump shot in the history of the sport but even I know that the hot hand needs to keep going. Instead of just admitting his mistake, Adebayo had a response ready for Durant.

I understand the point behind wanting to defend yourself, but here it is just unnecessary. Do not try to deflect it on Damian Lillard, just admit you were wrong. For those few seconds, that ball is sacred. It only belongs to Kevin Durant. If things went the way they were supposed to, he likely would have knocked down a couple more corner threes. Guys like Steph Curry get this treatment as soon as they start the shootaround and hell, I would still give the ball back to him or Durant even if they missed. This will more than likely blow over soon, but it is a surprising example of one of street basketball’s most well-known rules being broken. There will certainly be more interesting things to talk about in the NBA, as an exciting offseason is ahead of us. Durant’s Nets and Dame’s Blazers already have a lot of people talking about potential moves.
