Fantasy Booking The MCU: How Can Disney Transcend Further?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe or MCU is the benchmark for companies attempting to create a franchise and weave the chapters so that every entry is must-see. Since Iron Man launched in 2008, Marvel Studios have not looked back as they churn out blockbuster after blockbuster to fanfare and dollar signs.

But how can they take the franchise further? Which avenues can they explore next? It is time to have a go at fantasy booking the MCU.

Build Around Spider-Man

Tom Holland has donned the Spider-Man suit ever since Captain America: Civil War hit screens in 2016, and he has made a case for being the best to do it. Opinions aside, Marvel must have had a plan in place when they gave the role to someone as young as Holland. It would make sense then that Spidey is set to be a focal point for the future and rightly so.

Spider-Man is a character which has found itself in a unique position, with his rights being shared between Marvel Studios and Sony. This presents a unique opportunity to have Holland franchise swap and make the web-head the focal point for all things Marvel, under both the MCU and Sony banners.

Spider-Man: No Way Home has the potential to be a major game-changer with all the rumours around it with regards to Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s involvement; I say double-down and make the Spider-Verse a reality, namely by allowing Sony to change a Venom threequel to a Spider-Man vs Venom movie. This can be a mutually beneficial deal that can be short-term, with Holland’s Sony involvement allowing Sony to present their own full-time Spidey in Miles Morales.

At the very least make Spider-Man the new Tony Stark of the MCU, build around him, his established character can help introduce other New York native superheroes like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, as well as revive the likes of Daredevil and The Punisher.

Revive The Netflix Shows on Disney+

It may be an alliance left in the mud, but Marvel and Netflix once upon a time produced some masterpiece shows set in the MCU together. The Punisher and Daredevil series rank among the best shows on the streaming platform altogether and although not reaching the same lofty heights, the other shows were far from an injustice to their comic origins.

It makes sense that with Disney+ expanding in the streaming market, Disney is looking through their previous work for surefire audience hits. The use of edgier shows would also help diversify the content in Marvel’s catalogue, making sure that there is truly something for everyone on the platform.

Deadpool Has to be Done Right

When the world was talking about the MCU and Batman vs Superman, Fox came out of nowhere to create one of the benchmark releases in the world of comic book movies. Deadpool was the perfect example of fan-service combined with a keen understanding of the fundamentals that made his character popular in the first place.

Born as a parody character based on DC’s Deathstroke, Deadpool has outgrown his inspiration and then some, breaking box office records and cementing himself as a cinematic icon. Ryan Reynolds appears to have a genuine connection with the character to the point that every movie he stars in has a hint of Deadpool in it.

This goes to show the significance of his two solo outings, and now it sits with Disney and Marvel Studios to make sure that the run goes on with the MCU. There are genuine concerns that the PG-13 approach that is traditionally taken by the House of Mouse will taint the organic feel that made Deadpool and it’s sequel the box-office powerhouses they are.

But with Ryan Reynolds continuing his work as Wade Wilson, it largely feels like the role is Disney’s to lose. As said before, the more mature content will show that Marvel has something for everyone, and surely Marvel would not stray too far from the winning formula.

When it comes to comic books, movies and TV, there is always a solid and loyal partner behind the heroes of the story. Batman and Robin, Sherlock and Watson, the list goes on. Similarly, Vendetta have some great partners for you to check out here.
