Asante Samuel HATES Bill Belichick
Don’t ask Asante Samuel to write a positive Yelp review about Bill Belichick. I’m not sure there is a player that hates Belichick more than Samuel does. The former All-Pro level cornerback spent his first five years with the Patriots. Samuel says he never bought into the so-called Patriot Way.
“Some of them be brainwashed with that Patriot Way. I ain’t going for none of that. I don’t know what no Patriot Way is,” Samuel said, via MassLive.com.
“All of them is company men, talking about Patriot Way,” Samuel said. “I don’t know none of that. I’m here to get money, take care of my family, the same way Belichick is here to take care of his family, get his money. So when you try to hold my money back and you want all your money, I ain’t got no respect for you.”
Samuel, now retired, has probably been the most vocal player about being Anti-Belichick. His issues stem from the fact that it sounds like Belichick never wanted to actually pay him. Part of being a Patriot is taking less for the team. After recording 16 interceptions in his final two years with the Patriots, Samuel departed for Philadelphia.
Samuel signed a big money deal with the Eagles. While he wasn’t as successful with Philly, Samuel still led the NFL in pass deflections in 2008. The following year, Samuel also led the league in interceptions with nine. Regardless, he was probably worth paying earning three trips to the Pro Bowl with the Eagles. Still a way better investment than the one Philadelphia made with Nnamdi Asomugha.
By the way, this isn’t the first time that Samuel has ripped Belichick. He’s done this before. I’m sure more players feel the same way Samuel does but it’s becoming very obvious that he’s the number one hater.
The Bill Belichick love affair is slowly starting to lose steam. I’ve been on record for saying he should be fired. While still an excellent coach, it’s clear Belichick is clueless when it comes to drafting real talent. Samuel has also been on record for saying Tom Brady is the only reason Belichick is successful. The pressure is on to build a winner with Mac Jones.
