AEW Dynamite Preview (1/11/23): Will The Elite Regain Their Titles?

AEW Dynamite is jam-packed with action. There is a lot scheduled for the show, so gear up for some fireworks. We will be hearing from key stars of the company, plus there are some really intriguing matches.

AEW has really stepped up its weekly shows over the past couple of months and it’s finally starting to feel like the old AEW again. We are also on the road to AEW Revolution, so many feuds may start or really pick up to set up to meeting for Revolution.

With so much that can happen on AEW Dynamite, let’s go over what to expect heading into the show.

We’ll Hear from the Jericho Appreciation Society

We are set to hear from the Jericho appreciation Society on Dynamite. The leader, Chris Jericho, has been having a rough go as of late. He is on a two-match losing streak, losing to Action Andretti and Ricky Starks. It’s likely that we will hear what’s next for Chris Jericho and the rest of the Jericho Appreciation Society.

Big Bill and Lee Moriarty vs. HOOK and Jack Perry

Jack Perry has had a rough year when it comes to friendships. He had his former mentor and idol turn on him along with his best friend, Luchasaurus, leading to a heated rivalry that lasted a few months.

Now, Perry may have found a new friend in FTW Champion, HOOK. Perry has recently had issues with The Firm. This would lead to group attacking Perry frequently, but he found an ally in HOOK, who came to the aid of Perry following one of The Firm’s attacks.

Since then, HOOK has been coming to Perry’s side and the two newly acquainted friends are set to take on Big Bill and Lee Moriarty of The Firm on AEW Dynamite.

Saraya and Toni Storm vs. Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter (c)

Britt Baker and the AEW Women’s World Champion, Jamie Hayter, are set to take on Saraya and Toni Storm.

Baker immediately had her issues with Saraya since the latter arrived in AEW a few months ago. The two women simply don’t like each other. Meanwhile, Hayter has had her rivalry with her former best friend, Toni Storm, for the past couple of months. Hayter beat Storm to become the new AEW Women’s World Champion at Full Gear.

Heading into AEW Dynamite last week, we didn’t know who Saraya’s mystery partner was going to be. But Saraya announced that it was going to be Storm, ultimately picking her over Hikaru Shida. Now, these four women are set to battle it out in the ring to settle their differences.

Bryan Danielson vs. Konosuke Takeshita

Konosuke Takeshita is a newly signed wrestler on the AEW roster. He is a highly valued young prospect in the professional wrestling world and will be a staple of AEW in the near future. But now, he gets to test his skills against one of the best wrestlers on the planet, Bryan Danielson.

Danielson recently returned to AEW television after spending a couple of weeks in the hospital with William Regal. Regal was in the hospital following MJF’s attack a few weeks ago. But Danielson returned at Winter is Coming and immediately went after the AEW World Champion, MJF.

Following his win against Tony Nese last week, Danielson called out MJF. He challenged MJF to a match for the world title and MJF accepted, but there are some stipulations. Danielson needs to wrestle every week on AEW Dynamite and win, leading up to AEW Revolution.

If he does that, he will get his match against MJF, but Danielson got to pick the stipulation, so if Danielson makes it to Revolution, he will be facing MJF in a One-Hour Iron Man match.

Jon Moxley vs. Hangman Page

Jon Moxley put Hangman Page on the shelf when Page suffered a concussion in their match a few weeks back. But over the past couple of weeks, Page returned to AEW with a vengeance. He and Moxley have been fighting and calling each other out since.

Page was recently medically cleared to wrestle on AEW Dynamite and now the two men finally get to settle the score in the ring.

This one is going to be hard-hitting and not for the faint of heart. Both men have something to prove in this match. Neither man will go down easy, so this one has the potential to be an early match of the year candidate.

Escalera De La Muerte Match

The Elite (3) vs. Death Triangle (c) (3)

It all comes down to this: match seven of this best-of-seven series.

Death Triangle had an early lead in the series when they were up 3-1, but once The Elite had enough of their shenanigans and made some interesting match stipulations for the final few matches, the tables turned.

The Elite are trying to mount a near-impossible comeback after being down 1-3 matches in the series. It will come down to the final match, which is an Escalera De La Muerte match.

An Escalera De La Muerte is essentially just a ladder match, so whoever climbs the ladder and retrieves the AEW Trios Championships, wins the match. This has been an unreal feud that has brought a few insane matches. It’s sad to see it come to an end on AEW Dynamite, but I have a feeling these teams will never really be done with each other.
