Malik Willis On His Time At Auburn “I Was So Immature”
Malik Willis has the widest range of outcomes among all quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft class. You can see the talent, the big arm, and the mobility. However, there are also accuracy and consistency concerns. Willis transferred to Liberty from Auburn, where he was told he wouldn’t even be considered for the quarterback competition. Willis didn’t take much interest in studying defense or film, and he’s admitted to his immaturity.
I was so immature. I had just played really well in the spring game, but I learned the hard way that the spring game doesn’t matter. I decided after that meeting that I had to be better, but I needed to find somewhere else to play and find someone to help me get where I needed to go.

Limited reps at Auburn meant that Willis had a lot of development to go through at Liberty. While he is a great talent, there’s still some major room for improvement. However, his great growth from Auburn to Liberty is proof that he’s done it once, and suggests that it is very possible for him to do it again when he gets drafted by an NFL team. If nothing else, this realization shows maturity, growth, and a willingness to learn from the past, which are all positive traits.
At the end of the day, Willis had one of the best weeks of practice among players at the Senior Bowl. Being able to put it all together and have the mental aspects down are only boosting his draft stock.
