Kyle Trask 2021 NFL Draft Profile

Kyle Trask enters the 2021 NFL Draft with a lot of eye balls on him. Will Trask sneak into the first round as a potential developmental piece teams are chasing? The Florida quarterback has drawn mixed reviews by the so called experts out there. Let’s not waste any time and dive right into the Kyle Trask 2021 NFL Draft profile.

The Gators quarterback is a big bodied gunslinger. Trask checks in at 6’5” and weighs in at 240 pounds. For those that don’t know the story, Trask never started in high school. He played in the Houston area and watched D’Eriq King start ahead of him. Trask bided his time until Feleipe Franks broke his leg. Once Trask got the job, he never looked back.

There is no question Trask improved his stock at Florida. He earned his last name back after being referred to as Kyle Trash by me early in his career. In 2020, Trask completed 69% of his throws throwing for 4,283 yards, 43 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Trask had a rough bowl game but overall had an unreal season with the Gators.

The number one red flag is obvious. Trask isn’t just a bad athlete. He isn’t just immobile. He’s borderline a worse athlete than a literal statue. That’s not necessarily a death sentence but Trask sticks out like a sore thumb when you compare him to the rest of the quarterbacks in the class. Regardless of if you like or dislike him, the inability to move around in the pocket stands out like an eye sore.

I’ve seen some people say Trask has a bad arm. I’ve seen others say he has a big arm. Most people don’t watch or comprehend football so that’s not surprising. I’d say this. I think Trask is capable of making NFL throws but he’s far from an elite pure arm talent. If you think this is another iteration of Josh Allen, you’re sorely mistaken.

I’m more so concerned with his knee bend and lack of twitch. He just looks awkward trying to bend his knees and often looks imbalanced even when there is no pressure on his follow through. There’s no explosion there at all. Very slow footed and there’s just no shot he’s ever going to extend plays. When asked to improvise, you’re better off asking him to eat the down rather than making an egregious mistake. Trask is also older. You wonder how much better he’s actually going to get. He probably already hit that extra gear he has.

Did Kyle Trask improve over the course of his college career. Yes. Did Trask prove he’s an elite level franchise quarterback? God, no. Trask very much deserves to be ranked inside the top 10 at the position but he’s still very much a work in progress without a high ceiling.
