Jaydon Blue 2025 NFL Draft Profile

There are a lot of different ways to look at Jaydon Blue. He’s a hero and a nemesis all at the same time. We’re going to go over exactly what that means here in a hot minute. Without further ado, here is your 2025 NFL Draft profile on the Texas running back!

Blue, 21, was a four star prospect during the 2022 cycle. The Houston, Texas, native was ranked as the 101st overall player, 6th best running back, and 18th overall player in the state. He played all three seasons for the Longhorns.

In 2022, Blue never saw the field and just wasn’t ever going to leapfrog Bijan Robinson, or even Roschon Johnson, and Jonathon Brooks. 2023, he was still a part time player behind Brooks and more so the 3rd or 4th string guy racking up 65 total carries. This past year, Blue started just five games and notched 134 carries for 730 yards and eight scores. Then also add in 42 receptions for 368 yards and six scores through the air.

Frankly, I’m not sure why Blue even declared. Why not go back to school instead of being lost in a historically great RB class? I have a theory on that, if you want to hear it. I think it’s possible Blue would have been the 4th stringer behind Quintrevion Wisner, CJ Baxter, and Jerrick Gibson if he went back to school. Instead of entering the portal, he declared for the draft knowing his production this past year could easily decrease if he stayed at Texas.

Keep in mind, Baxter was hurt last year, and Gibson was just a freshman. Blue stepped up all things considered, but we saw the warts.

You will likely notice a theme if you read the stock report notes at the top. I call Blue a “nickel back” over and over again. AKA not a real running back, but on third down maybe he can catch a few balls and impact the game with speed. He’s a change of pace back, and that’s about it.

Blue ran at the Combine but didn’t do anything else. For a guy who has major questions, speed wasn’t one of them. A 4.38 is cool but no on-field really stinks. He also checked in at 5-foot-9, 196.

Again, he can kinda run routes and be a target out of the backfield but this is not a real carry the team running back. A zero in pass protection, a zero in terms of broken tackle ability, and an egregious fumble rate are red flags you can’t ignore. Eight fumbles in his 214 career touches just isn’t good enough.

I have an undrafted grade on Jaydon Blue. I just don’t think there’s much to get here. Outside of being a receiving back, you’re not getting much here.
