Injuries suck. What else is there to say? Texas lost Jonathon Brooks to the NFL and his replacement is done for the year before the season ever got started. CJ Baxter is out for the 2024-25 College Football Season after suffering a knee injury in practice.
“After suffering a knee injury in Tuesday’s practice, Texas sophomore running back CJ Baxter will miss the 2024 season.”
“A source told Horns247’s Chip Brown on Tuesday that the full extent of Baxter’s injury during the first fall camp practice for the Longhorns in full pads wasn’t known in the hours after it happened. However, a source told Brown on Wednesday that Baxter tore the LCL and PCL in his right knee, which will require season-ending surgery.”
Baxter, a five-star prospect last cycle, was poised for a breakout year heading into 2024. The entire Texas program feels primed for a breakout after making the playoff last year. It’s a huge blow to a team with real aspirations. Injuries suck that’s all I’m going to say. The positive is that this offensive line is loaded with established upperclassmen and has quality depth across the board. Not to mention Quinn Ewers is back along with depth in the quarterback room as well with Arch Manning.
Baxter rushed for 659 yards (4.8 yards per attempt) and five touchdowns in 2023. Jaydon Blue will now get an increased workload as the starting back.
