Bo Nix Labels SEC Football As ‘Unhealthy Obsession’
I just did the 2024 NFL Draft Profile on Bo Nix the other day. Click here for the article on that.
Anyway… one of the biggest questions with all of these quarterbacks is the unknown of the transfer portal. Back in the day years and years ago, this wasn’t really a thing. Now quarterbacks are using it to their advantage and have increased their draft stock. Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix, and Nix have all used it to their advantage.
Nix did not play well during his time at Auburn. That’s not really a secret if you watch college football. What I didn’t expect is for Nix to trash the entire conference and all of their fans right before the 2024 NFL Draft.
Nix made an appearance on the Ryen Russillo show recently. He said SEC football is an “unhealthy obsession” and says playing out West made him love football again.
“In a sense, the hostility and the maybe unhealthy pressure that’s added to a 18 to 22-year-olds by outside noise and fans,” Nix said on Ryen Russillo’s podcast . “It’s almost like an unhealthy obsession in the South. I was that way growing up — life and death football. It’s a little bit more laid back in a way (out here). If you give a great effort and try really hard .. obviously we’re out there to win. I think that’s the difference quite frankly, what’s put into college football in the South and out here, football’s just a game and we (can) find joy in it.”
Keep in mind, Nix’s father was a quarterback at Auburn and he was born in the state of Alabama. The SEC is a different animal but it’s also the most similar thing to the NFL in college football. Nix’s comments are certainly concerning. If he couldn’t survive in the SEC, what’s going to happen at the NFL level when he’s asked to carry a franchise? The team that drafts Nix better be able to answer that question.
