I think we all saw this coming the second the Raiders hung 63 points on the Chargers last night. The same Raiders team that scored 0 weeks the week prior. Isn’t Brandon Staley supposed to be a defensive head coach…
The Chargers have announced the Staley and general manager Tom Telesco have been relieved of their duties.
For the record, firing Telesco was the right call too. His draft picks weren’t terrible but he is responsible for some of the worst coaching hires in recent memory. Telesco apparently never even considered firing Staley, which is insane. Telesco also hired Anthony Lynn, a running back coach who was never going to work. If you hire two F-level head coaches, you should be fired.
Staley, 41, will finish his head coaching tenure with the Chargers at 24-25. That, of course, doesn’t include the disastrous playoff loss where he probably should have lost his job. A defensive head coach that coaches the 4th worst defense in the league in yards allowed. With the talent that team has, it just can’t happen.
Now that Staley is gone, Chickster will want you to know that Justin Herbert doesn’t have any excuses anymore. Just letting you know what’s on the horizon. One would imagine that after Herbert signed that mega extension, the Chargers will look to hire an offensive-minded coach. It certainly didn’t help that Herbert was lost for the season due to injury.
Don’t forget to check out our video on Staley too. It’s a good one you will want to see.
