Aaron Rodgers calls out Joe Namath after ripping Zach Wilson’s play

Following Aaron Rodgers tearing his Achilles, Zach Wilson has stepped in as the new starting quarterback for the New York Jets. Staring at a 1-2 record, former Jets quarterback Joe Namath blasted Wilson for his poor play.

Now, the injured Rodgers has come to the defense of his teammate saying the comments towards Wilson aren’t helping the cause.

After Rodgers went down with the expected season-ending injury, Wilson was up-to-bat at QB for the Jets. With a swing and a miss in the first three games, Namath has seen enough from the former 2nd overall pick.

“I didn’t take anything positive out of it. It was awful,” Namath said about Wilson’s performance, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “I wouldn’t keep him. I’ve seen enough of Zach Wilson.”

Although no time machine has been invented just yet, Jets fans are certainly hoping for one to be made soon to go back and prevent Rodgers’ injury. With a season full of hope and promise that the Jets haven’t experienced in years, Rodgers retains his disappointment and hasn’t thrown in the towel just yet.

“I said to (the team) in the preseason, our toughest task is handling success and that’s whether we’ve having success or not having success. That doesn’t mean you’re winning all the time and got to handle it the right way,” Rodgers said Tuesday on “The Pat McAfee Show,” according to the New York Post. “When we’re not having success, how do we respond? How do we respond to adversity?

“That goes to our fan base and former players as well. You’re not helping the cause. You’re not helping the cause.”

Namath even went so far as to double down on his comment, saying that Wilson should be traded to Kansas City to learn under Patrick Mahomes. If it were up to Namath, I could assure you that he would want Wilson out of the Jets organization in seconds.

Although Namath may be negative, Rodgers seemed to be more invested in Wilson.

“We have to understand the importance of manifestation in what we’re putting out in the world. We also have to be realistic as well. We’re not living in this rose-colored glass world. We’re 1-2. Been a couple rough ones,” he said. “But let’s stay behind our guys. Let’s support our guys, let’s support the boys on the field and stick with our guys and have a little belief.

“Because as we saw this weekend, anybody can beat anybody. I’ve already seen we’re almost double-digit underdogs at home against Kansas City and they’re coming off a beat down of Chicago and blah, blah, blah, but it’s a home game, it’s ‘Sunday Night Football,’ it’s an opportunity for us to go out there and show what we’re all about and I think it’s going to be a great opportunity for our boys and I’d like to see everybody stick together – our fan base, our former players and our current players because (there’s) too much negativity and the world is crashing down after three weeks.

“It’s a long season, lot of time, lot of things that can happen.”

Outside of all the commotion going on in the organization, New York looks to take on the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday evening at 8:20 p.m. ET. Will the Jets find a quarterback to replace Wilson in the meantime to salvage their season? Or will they stick it out with Wilson? Let us know in the comments below.
